Advance screening and a conversation with Pierre Haski and Wu’er Kaixi

Ahead of the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests, join Reporters Without Borders for an exclusive UK advance screening of ‘The Man who Defied Beijing’, on the life of Chinese dissident and Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo, followed by a conversation with filmmaker Pierre Haski and dissident activist and Tiananmen student leader Wu’er Kaixi.

Liu Xiaobo, the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize winner, hero of the 1989 Tiananmen student’s uprising, was imprisoned for 9 years and released in 2017 only to die a few weeks later. However, his name stays little known as the Chinese regime has done everything possible to erase it from our collective memory. Alas for the Beijing masters, Liu Xiaobo left a political legacy under the form of a long interview delivered before his arrest. This film is his legacy supplemented with the testimonials of those closest to him. It is the story of the radical mutations the country has known and a destiny we shall not forget. The film premieres on 4th June on ARTE in France.

Concessions available to students, pensioners and those on a low income.
