Three Things to Learn About Translation

Rahul Bery (Translator in Residence at the British Library), Rebecca May Johnson (The Poettrio Experiment) and Dr Jakob Stougaard-Nielsen (Senior Lecturer in Scandinavian Literature, UCL) will be in discussion with other academics and practitioners about what they’ve learned about translation so far. Expect insights into everything from practicalities to cultural policies, chaired by Theodora Danek.

Isabel Wall is Assistant Editor at Viking, Penguin Random House, where she spearheads the Penguin European Writers Series.

Rahul Bery

Rahul Bery is the Translator in Residence at the British Library. He is a secondary school teacher and translator from Spanish and Portuguese, based in Cardiff. He has translated essays and stories by Daniel Galera, Cesar Aíra and Enrique Vila-Matas

Dr Rebecca May Johnson

Research Associate

Dr Rebecca May Johnson is a Research Associate at The Poettrio Experiment, researching poetry in translation. She is a writer, literary curator, and co-founder and curator of the literary food salon ‘Voices at The Table’. She also co-curates ‘Sitting Room’, a long-running series of readings in people’s houses and public spaces. She created the Food Memory Bank, a digital project to collect public memory about food and eating.

Dr Jakob Stougaard-Nielsen

Senior Lecturer in Scandinavian Literature

Dr Jakob Stougaard-Nielsen is a Senior Lecturer in Scandinavian Literature in the School of European Languages, Culture and Society (SELCS) and acting Director of Comparative Literature.
