Lounge as you read zine entries and meet leading comic creators and graphic novelists

Day two is open to the public to drop by to hang out in the Laydeez Lounge. Here everyone is invited to view the entries to this year’s Laydeez Do Comics Graphic Novel Award in the form of zines that can be held and read with a slice of cake. A film loop will be playing that has been made by each of the six shortlisted contestants. Also in the lounge will be the following publishers and organisations’ tables including Unbound BooksLiminalMyriad, ÉditionsKickstarter and Good Comics. Each group will be giving presentations throughout the day, and will be available to talk to. The event wraps up with a VIP wine reception to announce the winner of the LDC award.

Laydeez Do Comics’ festival offers everyone the opportunity to celebrate meet comic creators and graphic novelists and see the entries of their 2019 Graphic Novel Award where the winner will be announced. Cake provided.

Good Comics is a UK-based independent publisher and distributor of comics, zines and graphic novels.



There is step-free access to all areas of Free Word and a number of other facilities available to make the venue accessible. 

  • Our box office, theatre and hall are all on the ground floor with step-free access from the street
  • Meeting rooms and offices are accessible by lift from the ground floor
  • There are two accessible toilets on the ground floor
  • Hearing loops are available at the box office and the theatre (when set up theatre style) and in all meeting rooms
  • If you need to bring someone for assistance, please get in touch with us so we can provide a free ticket for them
