Learn the craft of writing from the inside out

TLC Masterclasses are for writers just starting out, or those with a specific writing project in mind and with a determination to see that project through to a more cohesive, coherent end product. Each Masterclass offers a holistic deep dive into elements of craft, with practical exercises and inspirational examples drawn from a wide range of sources. Whilst each is offered as a standalone course, all three have been designed together and therefore complement each other.

Finding Your Story: Plot, Setting and Structure

This workshop demystifies the construction of your story. It takes a hard look at causality, the engine that drives the narrative. By examining the motivation of characters, we understand what makes them strive; we also gain insight into the conflicts caused by obstacles in their path. We investigate some of the key plot compositions that inspire and echo the shaping of our stories, from Aristotelian underpinnings of story through to three- and five-act structures of conflict, escalation and resolution. Lively exercises turn theory into practice as we put narrative structure into action and explore the enormous impact of setting and time.

Book all three masterclasses for £315+VAT (£72 saving) / £255 concessions (£54 saving).
