Zakia Sewell and Amey St Cyr. explore ancestral trauma in this new theatre performance

The bond between mother and child is one of the most natural and profound relationships we can experience. But for Zakia Sewell and her mother – who she’s always called Amey – this relationship has been far from straight-forward.

After many years of disconnection and words unspoken, they’re collaborating to better understand the issues they have had to overcome. Directed by theatre-maker Cathy Sloan, this moving work highlights the kindness of self-care and self-knowledge and the healing that accompanies it.

Voices of the Motherland will be performed live at Free Word with a limited socially distanced audience (select book above).

Audiences will also be able to live stream the event online from home. Click here for online streaming tickets for Voices of the Motherland.

Free Word’s new ticket pricing structure aims to honour the work of our artists whilst acknowledging the increased financial pressures our audiences may be experiencing.
