Drill & Grime: What's the Problem? | Free Word

DRILL & GRIME: WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? took place at Free Word on 26 September 2018, as part of our This Is Private Season.

Free Word, TRENCH and Index on Censorship joined forces to discuss the censorship around drill and grime, and why music that reflects the lives of young black and brown people living in inner-city estates continues to be silenced in the UK.

The conversation brought together legendary grime artist, P Money, DJ AG, drill producer Carns Hill and writer and youth worker Ciaran Thapar to talk about the representation of drill as violent, the policing of artistry and the representation of women in these respective genres.
